Mark and Robin Schaffer are once again holding a Thank You Concert at their home for all those who join us in the fight against breast cancer. This is the first time our Thank You Concert adds a nationally renowned touring band to our usual mix of outstandingly talented locals. We can’t possibly seat everyone who wants to attend, so we encourage our friends and colleagues to reserve a seat before word gets out in the general community in early June.
Before we describe the show, let’s remember why we ask for your contribution yearly, whether or not you attend: Statistically, one out of every seven women you know will be diagnosed with breast cancer. It is an astounding number that affects everyone reading this email. We send the proceeds to the Avon Foundation, an extremely well-run charity serving scientific research, access to treatment, diagnosis and screening, support services, and education and awareness, all with a focus on the medically underserved.
About The Concert Thanking You for your Contributions:
THE WIYOS’s dazzling musicianship and mind blowing shows feature a contemporary twist on Vaudevillian ragtime blues, Hillbilly swing and pre-war American country music from the likes of Fats Waller, Spike Jones, Louis Armstrong and Uncle Dave Macon. The trio has headlined at the Newport Folk Festival, Chicago’s Annual American Music Festival, Manhattan’s Joe’s Pub at the Public Theatre, and all over the United States and Europe. They’ve opened for the likes of Maria Muldaur, Gillian Welch and David Bromberg. They are supremely accomplished musicians and they are overwhelmingly entertaining.
FRANK & FRAIDA combine Fraida’s exquisite voice with Frank’s guitar virtuosity. They cover jazz, swing and popular standards with joy, taste and talent. And just when you think you know their show, they’ll hit you with a blast of rock ‘n’ roll, a folk favorite or an absolutely gorgeous ballad.
KEN GALIPEAU is a collector of stories, songs and poems that touch your heart and your funny bone. He celebrates the wonder, absurdity, pain and joy of life with energy, enthusiasm, and sincerity. Ken’s encyclopedic repertoire covers all manner of popular, obscure and original music. You’ll love his polished voice and winning stage presence.
